Our staff is committed to providing quality service and professional assistance to help families complete the necessary forms to obtain benefits that are provided through the United States Department of Veterans Affairs for deceased veterans.

The veterans death benefits help cover the burial, funeral and transportation costs associated with the deceased’s services and disposition.

• A veteran who didn’t receive a dishonorable discharge
• A service member who died while on active duty, active duty for training, or inactive duty for training
• The spouse or minor child of a veteran, even if the veteran died first
• In some cases, the unmarried adult dependent child of a veteran

Veterans’ benefits are not issued automatically and must be applied for through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. These benefits may assist with certain funeral, burial, and transportation expenses, depending on eligibility.

To help ensure timely processing, families should be prepared to provide essential documentation, including the veteran’s discharge papers (DD Form 214), a certified death certificate, and records of funeral, cemetery, and final medical expenses. Additional details may be required, such as Social Security information, marital documentation, dependent information, and verification of any insurance or other income.

In addition, the Department of Veterans Affairs offers, at no cost, government-issued headstones, grave markers, or niche markers for eligible veterans. To request these items, VA Form 10-1330 must be completed and submitted to the Department of Veterans Affairs, 5109 Russell Road, Quantico, VA 22134-3909.

Military funeral honors are provided to recognize and honor a veteran’s service and may include the playing of “Taps,” a ceremonial flag presentation, and the presence of uniformed service members. An American flag, supplied by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, is carefully folded and formally presented to the next of kin or a designated individual at the conclusion of the service.

Eligibility for these honors and the burial flag is based on qualifying military service. This may include individuals who served during wartime, those who passed away while on active duty, veterans who served during

designated periods of peacetime, or members of the Selected Reserves, with additional criteria determined by the nature and length of service.
