William L. Hill, born in Pollocksville, NC on November 10, 1939, went peacefully to be with the Lord on June 3rd, 2024. William was raised in Pollocksville, NC but resided most of his adult life in Queens, NY. William was a dedicated train engineer with the New York City Mass Transit Authority for over 20 years, upon his retirement he was rewarded throughout several NYC newspapers for his diligent work performance.
William and his beloved wife, Josephine, loved to travel and enjoyed cruises. They often visited new places and made many new friends. Prior to his move to Newark, Delaware he was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Somerville, NJ and was an avid bowler with the Senior Bowling League in Somerset County, NJ. William loved his family deeply and was most at ease when spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his extended family.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Josephine B. Hill, his son Carl J. Buckhanan, his parents Della B. Hill and William W. Hill, his siblings Dr. George D. Hill, John E. Hill, David Boone and Bonnie H. Wilkins.
He is survived by his two dear daughters, Benita Hill of Newark, NJ; Linda Hill (Adrianne L. Johnson) of Newark, DE; six cherished grandchildren, Steven J. Simmons II, (Anna C. Simmons) Marcus A. Simmons (Kristen J. Simmons), Akira J. Simmons, Morgan L. Hill, Dean P. Hill, Davon G. Hill; four adored great grandchildren, Rowan D. Simmons, Marcus A. Simmons II, Shepherd M. Simmons and Malakai I. Simmons; two aunts, Hattie Mattocks and Laura King; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends impacted by his kindness and generosity.
Burial will be held on Saturday, June 8th, 2024 at 11am at New Cemetery in Somerville, NJ. Pastor Loreno Flemmings, Officiant.
