William
Bellas
Aug 21, 1936 — Dec 19, 2025
William Bellas
William Bellas, 89, of Queens, New York, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 19, 2025.
Born in Apollo, Pennsylvania, William was a signal engineer serving the New York City subway system. Bright and driven by a tireless work ethic, he attended Carnegie Mellon University before moving to New York early in his career to build a life defined by work, family, and service.
A lifelong Pittsburgh Pirates fan, William remained connected to his Pennsylvania roots, regularly returning to Pittsburgh to spend time with family. Baseball became his language of devotion – to his daughters, whose softball teams he coached, and to his community, where he organized youth tournaments through the Kiwanis Club.
Faith anchored William's life. For over sixty years, he was a steadfast parishioner and lector at St. Adalbert's Church, where his commitment to worship and service touched countless lives.
William had a kind heart and a generous spirit. He loved telling stories and jokes (even if his family lovingly questioned his comedy), and his warmth radiated. Above all, William was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who was generous with his time and his heart. He took immense pride in his family, and being a grandfather brought him profound joy, whether he was taking his grandchildren to Broadway shows, cheering at their soccer games or performances, or celebrating graduations. These moments were among the greatest treasures of his life, and he was grateful to have been able to share them.
William was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Alva Maize and George Bellas; his brother George Bellas; and his sister Sally Bellas.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Murray; his daughters Barbara and her husband Thomas Wilk of Maspeth, Queens; Susan and her husband Charles Behette of Neshanic Station, New Jersey; and Nancy and her husband Rich Llanos of Somerset, New Jersey; his brother Jack and wife Ruth Bellas of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; five cherished grandchildren: Alexandra, Lauren, Amy, Samantha, and Eric; and one great-grandchild, Madeline.
Friends and family are invited to gather for a funeral Mass on Monday, December 29, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Adalbert's Church, located at 52-29 83rd Street, Elmhurst, New York 11373.
