Vittorio Ravi, Sr., 82, of Bridgewater, NJ, passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021. Born in Mirto, a Provence of Messina in Sicily, Italy, Vittorio (Vito), spent his time as a young child in Italy working with his family in the marble stone quarries. At an early age, he joined the Italian military and became a Paratrooper ("al Paracadutista") and was honorably discharged in 1962 at 23 years old. In 1965, he joined many of his family from Sicily who immigrated to the United States and started his journey in Newark, NJ, where he lived for about 8 years, and met and married his wife, Raffaela. While in Newark, they gave birth to three sons (Anthony "Tony", Vittorio Jr. "Vic", and Gennaro "Jerry"). In 1975, they moved to Bridgewater, NJ where Vito resided with Raffaela and family for the last 46 years. His main trade was as a Mason, which started with his roots in Sicily. His work ethic was like no other, and while he maintained many jobs to support his family, he was fortunate and able to retire in 2000, from his job for over 20 years as a Grounds Maintenance Worker for the Bridgewater-Raritan School District. Some of his most notable (other) jobs included being a Handy-Man, Bus Driver, and one of his most memorable with family and friends, where he sold and personally delivered authentic Italian food (Stuffed Shells, Manicotti, Raviolis, Meatballs) to local community groups, restaurants, police stations and pizzerias. Vito had many hobbies including tending to his vast backyard garden where he also maintained grape vines. He truly enjoyed making homemade wine, tomato sauce and marinades, most of which he would share and giveaway to his family and friends. He also had a passion for helping others and giving back to the community, which is why he was usually the first call people would make when help was needed. He enjoyed summers, and his favorite when his boys were young, was visiting the Jersey Shore, where he taught the boys how to fish and crab. Most of what they caught ended up on the dinner table with a big plate of pasta. He also enjoyed taking day trips to Atlantic City with his wife. His three sons were athletes their entire lives, and he took pride in attending all their sporting events and was a loving and supportive father and husband. He was a true family man, with lots of love to give starting with his wife. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his sons and grandkids. His view was that close friends were family too, so they were often invited into the home. In his mind, nothing was better than sitting around the table with his family and friends, having an Italian pasta meal, with a homemade glass of wine and toasting ("Salute e Cent'Anni!!" – Cheers to your health and a 100 years). He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Raffaela Annechino Ravi, his two sons - Vittorio "Vic" Ravi Jr. and his wife Kiersten, and Gennaro "Jerry" Ravi and his wife Lauren, his four grandchildren - Gianna, Gennaro ("JR"), Hunter and Ashlyn, his sister - Maria Barbruto, his uncle - Ottavio Lopresti, his many nieces and nephews, and his dog, Boomer. A viewing will be held on Monday, January 3, 2022 from 3-7pm at the Branchburg Funeral Home 910 US Highway 202 South, Branchburg, NJ, 08876. Funeral services will start with a prayer at 9am at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 followed by a 10am funeral mass at Holy Trinity R.C. Church in Bridgewater. Entombment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery Mausoleum. Due to Vittorio's ongoing battle with cancer, the family suggests making contributions in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
