Obituary

Timothy J. Donovan Hackettstown, NJ Timothy J. Donovan, 74, of Hackettstown, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 24, 2021. Born in Peoria, IL, Tim was a lifelong resident of Illinois until moving to Hackettstown 33 years ago. Tim graduated from Spalding Institute, Class of 1965. He then went on to receive his BA in Psychology from the University of Illinois, Class of 1987. Tim was a Vietnam Veteran serving in 5th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army as a combat medic from 1968-1970, earning multiple citations including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. He worked at Pabst Brewing in Illinois for 14 years and on completion of his degree, he relocated to New Jersey and began his career as a Senior Probation Officer in the Warren County Courthouse for the State of New Jersey. After 23 years of service, he retired in 2012. Tim loved his job and the highlight of his career was the co-workers he had the pleasure of working with and the friends he made along the way. Tim was a proud member of the Probation Association of New Jersey and he was awarded Probation Officer of the Year in 2005. He was an avid handball player, playing competitively in his early life. And in all the decades he played, it was the friends he competed with that made it special for him. Tim enjoyed golfing, fishing, cooking, and dining out. He was a St. Louis Cardinal fan, and you could always count on him to root for the Fighting Illini. Tim enjoyed traveling to Wisconsin, South Carolina, Florida, especially Disney World and Washington, DC. Tim had a great love for animals, especially his cat Gooney, the brown tabby cat he rescued at just 4 weeks old. More than anything, the thing Tim enjoyed the most was spending quality time with his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Rose and Vincent Donovan, three sisters, Joan Crank, Helen Donovan, and Margaret Buel. Surviving are his loving wife of 36 years, Sharon, a loving daughter Aubrey and her husband Charlie Collick of Somerset, NJ; two dear brothers, Michael and wife Nancy Donovan of Homer, IL; James and wife Joyce Donovan of Florissant, MO; his cherished grandson Charlie-O, his feline companion Gooney, and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial mass will take place on Friday, October 29, 2021, at 11 am, at St. Mark's R.C. Church – 59 Spring Lane, Long Valley, NJ 07853. Memorial contributions may be made in Tim's memory to the ASPCA and/or the Make-A-Wish Foundation - causes very near and dear to his heart.
