Obituary

Steven P Muratore passed peacefully on January 1, 2021 surrounded by his family, at the wonderful age of 98. Steve was born on June 27, 1922 in New York City to the late Giacchino and Anna (nee Romeo). He was one of four children to bless the family and after his schooling he enlisted with the US Army to honorably serve our country during WWII. In 1987 he retired from the US Postal Service in New York City after many years of dedicated service. On October 24, 1948 he married his childhood sweetheart Nettie Firneno, a love that lasted for 72 years. They settled in Brooklyn and started their family of five. You would always find him sitting on the stoop, reading the paper and talking to neighbors. In 1971, they were fortunate to purchase a summer home on Bertrand Island in Mt. Arlington, NJ which they eventually moved to in 1998. He spent hours outside; picking up sticks and acorns, making huge leaf piles for the kids to jump in! He enjoyed sitting by the lake, fishing, ice skating and sleigh riding and then to come home to a roaring fire in the fireplace. Their door was always open to friends and family. Stevie loved animals, especially cats. He enjoyed reading, listening to music, and watching sports. Although his favorite teams were always the ones his grandchildren played on! He was very interesting, with the greatest stories to tell. He was laid back and always pleasant with a fun-loving spirit. A great man who loved to make people laugh. He was one of a kind! He created endless memories for his family and had a unique ability to touch so many lives. Above all, Stevie's family was the most important part of his life. We will be forever grateful and fortunate to call him "ours". He leaves joyful and mostly hysterical memories - to the love of his life Nettie; his children Jack Muratore (Linda), Diane Muratore (Jim Haggerty), Steven Muratore (Jenni), Lynne Panciello (Michael) and Richie Muratore (Angela); his grandchildren (Jack, Tara, Stephen, Joseph, Lauren, Sahra, Sofia, Leah, Hunter, Ryan, Parker); great grandchildren (Grace, Jasper, Jane, Walter, Wesley); his dear centenarian sister Mary Sciulara, brothers Thomas and Albert passed previously and many more loved family members. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on January 5, 2021 at 11am at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 60 Maple St. Bridgewater NJ 08807. Entombment to follow at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Cemetery & Mausoleum, Bridgewater NJ. Tonight, we raise a glass of Dewars to you Pop.... "another soldier down" Cheers! Rest easy. Donations in Dad's memory may be made to the good work of Patriot Paws. Please share your memories here. We will cherish them forever.
