Roy L. Deter Jr, 61, of Branchburg, NJ, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Bridgeway Care Center. Born in Orange, NJ, Roy resided in Denville, NJ 30 plus years ago, before relocating to Woodland, CA and recently residing in Branchburg, NJ. Roy was a graduate of Livingston High School Class of 1977. Roy's passion and life long career was a master carpenter. Roy was a part of the Yolo County Search/ Rescue team. He was an avid Giants and Yankees fan. He enjoyed photography, woodworking, and cooking. He loved exploring the outdoors. Roy was a mentor and artist. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family. One thing about Roy is he had a great love for dogs especially his golden retriever Dakota. He is preceded in death by his parents Joan and Roy L. Deter Sr. and a sister Laura Deter. Surviving are his former wife of 33 years, Mary Norvillas Deter; two dear sons Matthew Deter of Denville, NJ; Keith and wife Lily Deter of Branchburg, NJ; two brothers Glenn and wife Wanda Deter of Green Villiage, NJ; Wayne Deter of Harrington, DE; one sister Lynn Deter-Errico of Branchville, NJ; many loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2020 from 3-5 pm at the Branchburg Funeral Home 910 Rt. 202 South Branchburg, NJ 08876. Committal is private.
