"BOB ADAMS, HILLSBOROUGH"

Robert Louis Adams, Sr, 87, died Saturday (May 2, 2026) at Mira Vie Assisted Living, Bridgewater, New Jersey. Born on December 17, 1938 in Newark, New Jersey and raised in Union, New Jersey, he resided in Hillsborough for 27 years, (1972-1999) before moving to Branchburg (1999-2021).

Bob was a 1957 graduate of Union High School, played minor league baseball (1957-1961) and served in the US Army during the Korean War (1959-1960). He worked for Nabisco as a salesman for 33 years, before retiring in 1994.

He was an avid Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and Dallas Cowboys fan and looked forward to the never-ending road trips on the Garden State Parkway to Atlantic City. Bob enjoyed spending quality time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and coaching youth sports.

Bob's true passion was sports: Whether it was playing high school football, basketball or baseball; being privileged to play minor league baseball for the Baltimore Orioles, his beloved Red Sox and the New York Yankee organizations or coaching his sons and grandsons in football, basketball and baseball. One of his fondest memories was coaching Hillsborough's 1973 All Star little league baseball team, advancing all the way to the state finals; what a ride! Bob was so proud of coaching youth sports in Hillsborough (even after his children went off to college), he would often introduce himself to others as "Bob Adams, Hillsborough". You could often find Bob at a local high school football field on a Friday night, or a basketball gymnasium on a random Wednesday night to experience what he deemed to be "a great match up".

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Maryellen Adams in 2009, treasured son, Robert L. Adams, Jr. in 2017, and precious grandson, Joseph Adams, in 2003.

Surviving are his cherished son, Gregory Adams and wife, Lynn of Medford; his loving daughter, Linda Marotta and husband, Robert of Raritan; and eight beloved grandchildren, Gregory, Alex, David, Jake, Katie, Jenny, Graham, and Henry. Also survived by his girlfriend, JoAnn Davison of New Providence; with whom he reconnected with at their 55th Union High School Class Reunion in 2012.
