Obituary

Ralph E. Owen, affectionately known as Arky, passed away on July 12, 2024, at the age of 94 in New Brunswick, NJ. Born on April 21, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York, Ralph led a fulfilling life marked by a commitment to service, community, and family.

Ralph attended John Jay High School in Brooklyn and furthered his education at Wesley Junior College in Dover DE, and Dickinson College, in Carlisle, PA- where he was President of the Sigma Chi fraternity. After graduating from Dickinson, Ralph proudly served in the Army from 1955-56 during the Korean war.

Professionally, Ralph was the Personnel Director at NYU, where he met his loving wife, Sheila. Ralph also later co-founded Kiley-Owen Executive Search firm. His leadership skills shone brightly as he served as the Rotary International NJ District Governor and Vice-President of the South Jersey Jaycees.

Ralph's early years were shaped by his deep involvement in All Saints Episcopal Church in Brooklyn, New York, where , in the 1940's, he was in the boys' choir, an active acolyte, in church plays and a member of the basketball team.

He was a lifelong sports enthusiast, a season ticket holder to the Philadelphia Phillies, and a college basketball aficionado attending many games with his son Edward. Ralph's sociable and energetic nature made him a beloved figure in his community and among his peers.

Ralph is survived by his loving wife, Sheila; his children, son Edward Owen and Edward's wife Patricia, daughter Lynne and Lynne's husband Richard Wickenheisser; his grandchildren Alexander, Spencer and Riley; and his sister; Virginia Lea. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Carolyn, his brother Bryant and his brother-in-law, Richard Lea.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, July 18th from 4-7 pm at the Branchburg Funeral Home in Branchburg New Jersey. On Friday, July 19th, there will be a funeral service at All Saints Episcopal Church, 286-88 7th Ave, Brooklyn NY at 11 am with an interment at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn NY at 1 pm.
