Peter Jay Quick Branchburg, NJ Peter Jay Quick, 81, of Branchburg, NJ, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, with his family by his side. Born in Somerville, NJ, he resided in South Branch before moving to Branchburg in 1967. Peter graduated from Long Island Agricultural and Technical Institute, earning a degree in Animal Husbandry. Upon graduation, he returned to South Branch to manage Quick Lea Farms, the family dairy farm. In December 1970, Peter sold the dairy herd and established Windward Farms, a retail farm stand where he was known for his sweet corn and tomatoes. While running Windward Farms, he also worked part-time at Duke Gardens in the Tropical, French and English gardens. In 1995, he began working full-time at Duke Gardens, concentrating on the English Garden. In the Summers of 2010 and 2011, Peter was the Assistant Coordinator of the Duke Farms Community Garden. Peter was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and loved spending time with his family. He was a voracious reader, loved running with his dog, going for walks on the Florida beaches, hiking at Hacklebarney State Park, and being a farmer. Peter was also an avid baseball fan, rooting for the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Mets. Some of Peter's activities through the years include participating in 4-H, becoming a 4-H leader; football, where his 1954 team was inducted into the Somerville High School Athletic Hall of Fame; college football; and the church softball league. He was also featured on the cover of the 1992-1993 New Jersey Bell phone book, representing NJ farming. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Ruth and Frederick Quick, his brother Jacob, and sister-in-law Marie. Surviving are his beloved wife of 56 years, Ingrid; his loving daughter, Nancy and husband James Reyes of Coopersburg, PA; his dear son, David and wife Kathy of Avondale, PA; 5 cherished grandchildren, Jason, Jessica, Matthew, Taylor, and Kyle; 2 brothers, Fred of South Branch, NJ and his family, and Taylor and his wife Jocille of Colorado and their family; and Jacob's wife Judy and their family. We invite family and friends to join us at a memorial luncheon at the South Branch Reformed Church, South Branch, NJ on Saturday March 10th at 11:30AM.
