Mike Kung, 90, of Branchburg, NJ passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born in Shandong, China, Mike went to Taiwan to receive his BS in Mathematics from Normal University. He then went on to teach high school mathematics in Malaysia. He then came to the United States and resided in Westchester, NY for 8 years before finally moving to Branchburg 42 years ago.
Mike received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from NYU with three publications in the Journal of Mathematics. He then went on to teach as a mathematics professor at three colleges and universities, including acting as Department Head of Mathematics at Ladycliff College. He then went on to work at several banks including Bank of New York.
Mike loved Chinese painting and calligraphy. He was an avid reader and kept up with current events. He loved watching baseball and his favorite team, the Phillies, play. He loved gardening and playing Mahjong with his friends. The thing that Mike enjoyed the most was spending quality time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents Feng Tsai and Ying De Kung as well as his brother Chuan Zheng Kung.
Surviving are his wife of 50 plus years, Fanny Y. Kung, a dear son, Wilson and wife Angella Kung of Westfield, NJ; one brother, Karl and wife Lily Kung of Spring Hills, KS; two sisters Pei-Ling and husband Yuan Jin Ding; You-Ling and husband Shang-Yong Liang, two cherished grandchildren Averie and Trevor Kung and many loving nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held on February 26 from 4 to 7pm and funeral service will be held on February 27 from 12 to 1pm at the Branchburg Funeral Home at 910 Rt. 202 South Branchburg, NJ 08876.
