Mary Yashkas, 99, of Stockton, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 1, 2022, at Bridgeway Care in Hillsborough. She was surrounded by her loving family. Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, Mary resided in Bridgewater, NJ, Bonita Springs, FL, and Nazareth, PA before moving to Stockton.
Mary graduated from Coughlin High School, Class of 1941. She was a devout catholic and the family counted on her prayers in times of need.
Mary was an avid Yankees fan. She never missed a game and always kept score and stats in notebooks using her own special system. She enjoyed crocheting and crafts, creating hand blown egg ornaments and beaded silverware that her family treasured. Mary traveled around the country with her husband Joseph, finding minerals and gems such as Herkimer diamonds and fluorescent rocks. She made jewelry out of their findings and shared her love of rockhounding with her family. The one thing Mary enjoyed the most was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Mary and John Yanchuk, her loving husband, Joseph Yashkas, and her six brothers, Joseph, Edward, George, Bernard, John and Thomas, and her grandson, Joey Yashkas.
Surviving are her dear son, James and wife Bernadette Yashkas of Flemington, NJ; two loving daughters, Susan and husband Charles Weber of Stockton, NJ; Diane and husband Grant Macdonald of Morrison, CO; three adored grandchildren, Leanne, Amy, and Brian, and nine cherished great grandchildren, Lucy, Charlie, Annie, Evvy, Eliza, Winnie, Ruby, Jack, and Hazel.
A funeral mass will take place on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at St. Bernard's R.C. Church at 10am in Bridgewater, NJ. Entombment will follow at St. Bernard Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to Apraxia Kids, Barth Syndrome Foundation, or St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
