Mary Anne E.
Squazzo
Dec 30, 1939 — Jan 20, 2023
Mary Anne E. Squazzo (Conley)
Barnegat, NJ
Mary Anne E. Squazzo (Conley), 83, of Barnegat, NJ, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2023, surrounded by her family at Ocean Medical Center. Mary was proud to be born in the Margaret Hague in Jersey City, NJ. She deeply cherished the memories of her youth centered around the exciting city life she was raised in.
Mary is a graduate of St. Bridget Grammar School in Jersey City. She would always tell stories of how her Grandma would watch out the window to make sure she got to school across the street and loved that she could go home and have her macaroni at lunchtime.
She is also a graduate of Saint Dominic Academy in Jersey City, Class of 1957, where she spent her teenage years with "The Girls"; who have stayed together through it all.
Right after school, Mary started a career working with her father as a Private Investigator in an agency they founded but later decided on her career as a secretary working on Wall Street in NYC with the Ecuadorian Banana Company. Lastly, to Continental Grain on 2 Broadway where she met and married her husband of 50 years, Charles.
She married in 1961 and moved to the suburbs of Somerset, NJ where she lived for 38 years and raised her family as wife, mom, ma, mommy to her three daughters, homemaker, party planner, social director, nurse, cook, local hotel banquet waitress, chauffer and chief bottle washer. Later moving to Hillsborough, NJ for 16 years and then to Barnegat, NJ for 7 years. Along the way making life-long friends and great memories to cherish.
Mary was an avid reader and loved her books. She enjoyed cooking and hosting lavish family parties. Mary loved taking trips and traveling the world. She said "the world is a big place and wanted to see as much as possible", bravo she succeeded. She was a member of the Hunterdon County Baking Guild. A hot cup of tea (cuppa with lemon) was essential to a great day as was seeing the faces of her smiling grandchildren. Going to NYC for shopping and Broadway plays with her granddaughter was a great joy of hers. Just as much as she loved beach trips to The Jersey Shore with her grandson. No two kids had a bigger cheerleader.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Valerie (Lopacinski) and Austin J. Conley, former police chief of Jersey City. Her loving husband, Charles R. Squazzo (2011). Her two brothers, Austin B. Conley and William (good guy Bill) Conley, and her son-in-law, Kevin McGee.
Surviving are her three loving daughters, Diane Squazzo-McGee of Barnegat, NJ; Valerie Squazzo of Flemington, NJ; Mary Ellen Squazzo and Fiancé Tommy Schultz of Hillsborough, NJ; two cherished grandchildren and in her words, her reason for living, Alana and Charles and many loving nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2023, from 4-8 pm at the Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 Rt. 202 South Branchburg, NJ 08876.
A prayer service will begin at the funeral home on Monday, January 30, 2023, at 9:45 am. The funeral mass will take place at St. Ann's R.C. Church in Raritan, NJ at 10:30 am. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Basking Ridge, NJ.
