Martin (Marty) Franchuk, 60, of Branchburg, NJ passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at RWJ Somerset. Born in Rochester, NY, and raised in Greece, NY, Marty resided in Maryland for 11 years, California for 3 years before moving to Branchburg 22 years ago. Marty was an avid computer engineer, having built his own personal computer from spare parts in 1981, well before household PCs were available. He worked at Taylor Instruments as an engineering technician in Rochester, NY. Marty attended SUNY in Buffalo, NY and for two decades, worked for a number of firms as a senior programmer and analyst, including Mountain Computer (Silicon Valley, CA), contracts for the Executive Office of the President (1992-1993), US Customs Data Center, and other well-known corporations such as Orbital Sciences Corp, GE information Systems, Cable and Wireless while living in Maryland, and AIG in New Jersey. In his spare time, Marty loved the outdoors and traveled extensively throughout the USA, with his most favorite place being the Adirondack Mountains. Marty recently took up gardening and had a lifelong love for biking, achieving racing championships in NY State. He loved visiting National Parks and introducing his children to the outdoors, music (especially the Beatles, 1960s music, and folk music), and Ukrainian heritage. He had been well-trained in traditional Ukrainian dance during his youth and early adulthood. He is preceded in death by beloved parents Anna and Stephan Franchuk, a brother Peter, and sister-in-law Sang Young. Surviving are his two dear sons, Alex and wife Pamela Franchuk of Lambertville, NJ; Brian Franchuk of Mt. Laurel, NJ; his ex-wife Donna Faletto of Branchburg, NJ; brother John and wife Karin Franchuk of Danville, CA; and many loving nieces and nephews. A private memorial service will be held in the near future in Rochester, NY. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the National Park Foundation or the Arbor Day Foundation.
