Marie
Sock
Oct 7, 1934 — Aug 26, 2026
Whitehouse Station, NJ
Marie Sock, 91, passed away on August 26, 2026. Born on October 7, 1934, in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, she was the youngest daughter of Mary and Simon Traychak. After losing her father at a very young age, she spent her youth being raised by her mother and sisters (Martha, Jeanie, Olga). Music and the marching band were among the early highlights of her life, culminating in her becoming the drum majorette during her senior year of high school, an accomplishment of which she was very proud.
She met her future husband, Norman Sock, at a polka dance at the local Polish Club. They soon married and moved to Linden, New Jersey, to begin their life together. Marie devoted her time to raising their two children, Mark Sock and Sharon Holderbaum.
Eventually, Marie moved to Branchburg and later Raritan, New Jersey, to be closer to her grandchildren. She took a very active role in helping raise them and would constantly remind family, friends, and even strangers that they were all so smart because of the time she had spent with them. They certainly never went hungry, as she was always insisting they eat another meal, snack, or handful of Skittles, which were a permanent fixture in her purse. Perhaps this was a reflection of her modest upbringing.
Marie was an active and proud member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges, New Jersey, for many years. She found enjoyment and perhaps her only vice, in lottery tickets and the occasional trip to the casino. Later in life, she took great pride in teaching herself how to use a computer. Like many teenagers today, she spent her final years scrolling through Facebook, watching YouTube videos, and offering her thoughts and opinions on just about everything.
Marie is survived by her son, Mark (Donna), and daughter, Sharon (Kirk); her five grandsons, Bryan, Tyler, Jonathan, Brandon, and Alex; and her seven great-grandchildren, Gabby, Cole, Matthew, Paige, Hadley, Lyla, and Hudson, all of whom she loved dearly. In accordance with one of her final wishes, she was laid to rest on September 10 in a private committal service. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
