Maria E.
Viana
Aug 23, 1949 — Dec 28, 2022
MARIA E. VIANA
North Plainfield, NJ
Maria Eulalia Filipe Viana, known by many as Lalinha or Inha, 73, of North Plainfield, N.J. passed away on Dec. 28, 2022.
Maria was born on August 23, 1949, to Joao Filipe and Juliana Martins Duarte of Cabanas de Torres, Alenquer, Portugal where she was born, raised and later met the love of her life, Estevao "Steve" Viana. She & Steve raised their two children, Sonia & Vasco for many years in Cabanas de Torres before moving to the United States and settling in North Plainfield, N.J.
Maria was hardworking and always kept busy, but her main focus was always her husband and children. She loved spending time with her loving family & friends – making countless, delicious meals (that will be sorely missed) to bring everyone together. She was a devoted Catholic and cherished her visits to Fatima both here in the U.S. and especially in Portugal. She was always counting down the days until her next visit home to Portugal. Her 3 grandchildren brought her the greatest joy and any excuse to spend time with them was a good one (even just to drop off some fresh bread).
Maria was predeceased by her parents Joao Filipe and Juliana Martins Duarte and her brother Zeca Filipe.
Maria is survived by her beloved husband, of nearly 48 years, Steve; children Sonia (Rick Ballesteros), and Vasco (Judy Sukovich); 3 precious grandchildren – Juliana & Sara Ballesteros and Vasco Viana Jr.; sisters Maria de Lourdes (Aniceto), Maria de Ceu (Rafael), brother Vasco Manuel (Margarida) and their families; several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends that are family.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 from 5-7pm at the Branchburg Funeral Home 910 Rt. 202 South Branchburg, NJ 08876 with a prayer service starting at 6:30pm.
