Luigi D'Ascanio Whiting, NJ Luigi D'Ascanio, 94, of Whiting, NJ, was called home by the Lord on Sunday, August 21, 2022, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Roccacasale (L'Aquila) Italy, Luigi resided in Long Hill Township, NJ for 50 years before moving to Whiting 4 years ago. In Italy, before emigrating to Canada, Luigi studied Accounting in Sulmona, and served as a Carabiniere with the Italian National Police in Padova. In Canada, he met his true love, married, and moved to the United States. Mr. D'Ascanio worked for AT&T Bell Laboratories as a Manager in the Finance Department in Murray Hill, NJ, for 28 years before retiring in 1986. He was well respected by his colleagues for his dedication and hard work. Luigi was a member of the Long Hill Township Senior Citizens Club. He enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden. He was an excellent cook and prepared delicious Italian meals for family gatherings. He had a passion for traveling and traveled the world with his wife. He enjoyed numerous cruises with family and yearly trips to his favorite island, Aruba, where he shared wonderful times with special friends. He enjoyed playing the slots in Atlantic City and reading financial articles in his spare time. The one thing Luigi enjoyed the most was spending quality time with his family, especially his grandson, Christian. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Angela and Antonio D'Ascanio, three brothers, Amedeo, Pasquale and Palmerino, and a sister, Irma. Surviving are his devoted wife of 68 years, Paola Migliore D'Ascanio, two loving daughters, Gabriella and husband Flaviu Ciocoiu of Weddington, NC; Susan and husband Marco Budinich of Manahawkin, NJ; cherished grandson, Christian Ciocoiu of Weddington, NC; three sisters, Flavia DeSanctis of Fort Myers, FL; Fernanda Silla of Woodbridge, Ontario, Canada; Amedea and husband Renzo Piron of Woodbridge, Ontario, Canada; one brother, Ottavio and wife Anna D'Ascanio of Maple, Ontario, Canada; sister-in-law, Margherita D'Ascanio of Marathon, FL; many other sisters-and brothers-in-law on his wife's side and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Luigi was a devout Catholic and devoted to Saint Anthony of Padova. Luigi had a heart of gold and a warm smile. He will be missed beyond measure by his grieving family, especially by his wife who was the love of his life, his best friend and soulmate. He has left a large void in our lives and he will remain forever in our hearts. "Ai nostri monti, ritorneremo..." A viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 from 5-8pm at the Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 Rt. 202 South, Branchburg, NJ 08876. A prayer service will begin at the funeral home on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 9:15am. Funeral mass will take place at 10am at St. Bernard R. C. Church. Entombment will follow at St. Bernard Mausoleum in Bridgewater, NJ.
