Louis Oliver Decker Branchburg, NJ Louis "Lou" Oliver Decker, 82, of Branchburg, NJ passed away peacefully on January 5, 2020 surrounded by his loving family at his home after a long and hard-fought battle with multiple health issues. He was a Branchburg Township resident for the past 47 years. Lou was born in Piscataway NJ on August 22, 1937. After graduating from Dunellen High School, he started his career as a draftsman at Croll Reynolds Inc. While raising his family, Lou attended college part time over several years where he completed the Engineering Technology program at Rutgers University, earned an Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Middlesex County College and a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Upsala College. His career developed over the following 35 years as a mechanical engineer and eventual Vice President of Croll Reynolds. For the past 25 years, Mr. Decker was the owner of DecTech Associates, LLC providing engineering consulting services to the process industry, specifically food processing applications. Certified in Food Engineering Principles and Practices by Rutgers University, he was a recognized expert in the field of vacuum cooling. Lou is a published author of numerous articles encompassing a diverse range of subjects on steam jet vacuum cooling, ejector vacuum systems, and troubleshooting for the engineering and food industries. He also was awarded the Past Honorarium from the Professional Advancement Center as an instructor in the Vacuum Technology Program. He is the past chairman of the Heat Exchange Institute Vacuum Technology Section. As a youth, Lou was a member of the BSA Sea Scout program. His love of Scouting continued as an adult serving for a number of years as the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop #185 in Branchburg. Lou later sponsored the Troop's Most Outstanding Scout of the Year award which his family will continue in his memory. Although Lou was a devoted Yankee's fan, his favorite teams were those for which his grandchildren played. "Poppy" was their biggest fan and sponsored many of their teams through his company. Lou had a love for the sea and the Jersey Shore. He was a certified Coast Guard Captain sailing his sailboat out of Barnegat and regularly vacationed with his children and grandchildren on Long Beach Island. One thing Louis cherished the most was spending quality time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents Elizabeth and Louis Decker and his brother Robert Decker. Surviving are his loving wife Carol Snyder Decker of 59 years, a dear son Thomas (Dale) Decker of Neshanic Station, NJ; a cherished daughter Lauren (Christopher) Porter of Hillsborough, NJ; one sister Audrey (Charles) Skelton of Springville, NY; four adored grandchildren Zachary, Trevor, Brady, Riley Elizabeth and many loving nieces and nephews. Viewing will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2020 from 1-5pm at the Branchburg Funeral Home 910 Rt. 202 South Branchburg, NJ 08876. A prayer service will begin at 4:30pm at the funeral home. Committal is private. Memorial contributions may be made is his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
