Leonard Sherman Bridgewater, NJ Leonard Sherman, 95, of Bridgewater, NJ passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 12 2019, surrounded by his loving family at Laurel Circle in Bridgewater. Born in Newark, NJ, Leonard lived in Bridgewater for the last 45 years. Leonard and his wife Roslyn founded Sherman & Sons Jewelers in 1968 which ultimately grew to a six store family jewelry chain. Leonard was born in Newark, moved with his family to Irvington in 1952 relocated to Bridgewater in 1972. n his earlier years Len was a door to door salesman for Fuller Brush before starting his own company, Leonard's Home Equipment. During WW2 Len joined the Civil Air Patrol and became a mechanic on B52 planes at Rome NY Army Air Base. Leonard enjoyed traveling to Hawaii with Roz. Len was an avid gardener and Stamp collector, well known in 1962, for his famous sheet of stamps know as the Hammarskjold Invert, which brought him his 5 minutes of fame on the Tonight Show with Jonny Carson, and featured in Mad Magazine, but alas no value for the stamps which were reproduced by the US Government, upside down. Leonard was a Silver Life Member of the Bridgewater Police PBA. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents Anna and Louis Sherman, 2 dear brothers Martin and Abe, and a cherished son Ron. Surviving are his loving wife of 74 years, Roslyn Sherman of Bridgewater, NJ; 4 dear sons, Robert of Atlantic Highlands, NJ; Lawrence of Florida; Gerald of New Mexico; and Abe of Bridgewater, NJ; 10 adored grandchildren; 12 cherished great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He will miss listening to Rush Limbaugh, his Marlboro cigarettes (which he smoked for over 75 years), and his loving family, maybe not in that order.
