Kathryn Tacountes, 100, of Bridgewater, NJ, passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at her residence. Kathryn grew up in Hoboken, NJ. She resided in Weehawken for 34 years, and 30 years in Brick before moving to Bridgewater.
Kathryn graduated from Demarest High School Hoboken, Class of 1939.
Kathryn was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the B.P.O. Elks first in Weehawken and then in Manasquan Elks. She was an avid ballroom dancer. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and teaching her skills to her children and grandchildren carrying on the Italian traditions of cooking and baking especially her Biscotti cookie. She enjoyed attending lifeguard competitions and swim meets for all the children. Her grandchildren shared many years at their grandparent's house down the shore. Kathryn was the initiator of competitive swimming in the family. This sport has carried through to her great grandchildren. One thing Kathryn always enjoyed was sharing holidays and parties with family and friends, especially her 100th birthday party spectacular.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents Pauline and Joseph Detrano, two brothers, Vincent and Dr. Salvatore Detrano, one daughter, Paula Horton, and her husband Paul George Tacountes of 56 years (2001).
Surviving are her loving daughter Karen and husband Paul Dionisio of Branchburg, NJ; a son in law, Joseph Horton of Washington Township; one sister, Anne P. Detrano of Allendale, NJ; four cherished grandchildren, Melissa and husband Michael Morales, Todd and wife Kristen Sudol, Allyson and husband Michael Read, and Glenn Sudol, six adored great grandchildren, Emily, Luke, Dylan, Logan, Juliet, and Gregory and many loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Bernard's R.C. Church in Bridgewater, NJ.
