Obituary

Julius V. Gorky Jr

Bridgewater, NJ

Julius V. Gorky Jr., 98, of Bridgewater, NJ, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Bayonne, NJ, Julius resided in South Plainfield before moving to Bridgewater 57 years ago.

Julius graduated from Bayonne High School, Class of 1942. He enlisted at 17 years old in the Army Air Corp (the predecessor to the current U.S. Air Force). During his time in the Army Air Corps, Julius was a 2nd Lt bomber pilot, flying B-17s, B-25s and B-29s. He was in Alamogordo, NM when the first atomic bomb was set off at Trinity site. He went on to serve in the Air Force Reserves and left as a Captain. He maintained his love of aviation, passing that interest on to the next generation.

In 1949 Julius married the love of his life, Rita, and spent the next 73 years together raising their family and enjoying their thirteen cherished grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Julius worked for Channel Home Centers for 40 plus years, starting when they had only one store. He worked his way up to become a Senior Vice President.

In his younger years, Julius flew model airplanes and won a national speed record. He played hockey with the Bay City Gulls and liked to go fishing, often with trips to Maine and Canada. Julius was a hands-on man and enjoyed woodworking, spending time at his lake house in the Poconos and traveling to Florida. Most importantly, Julius enjoyed spending quality time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Mary Gorky, nee Pincar and Julius Gorky Sr., a daughter, Christine A. Gorky, a sister, Claire A. Gorky, and a grandson, Brett V. Gorky.

Surviving are his loving wife, Rita A. Bentryn Gorky, five sons, David and wife Susan Gorky of Hillsborough, NC; Paul and wife Donna Gorky of Denver, CO; Craig and wife Susan Gorky of Estero, FL; Peter and wife Naran Gorky of Bridgewater, NJ; Eric Gorky of Flemington, NJ; and one loving daughter, Judith Anderson of Key West, FL.
