Obituary

Judith Mae Gemeinhardt

Hillsborough, NJ

Judith M. Gemeinhardt, 83, of Hillsborough, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 19, 2023 at Complete Care at Green Knoll. Born in Passaic, New Jersey, Judi resided in Garfield and Sussex, New Jersey before moving to Hillsborough 18 years ago.

Judith—known to all as "Judi" since childhood—graduated from Pope Pius XII Diocesan High School, Class of 1957. She later received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Ramapo College in 1982.

Judi worked for Americana Hotels as a reservations clerk and manager while she put herself through college, before embarking on a long and satisfying career as a legal secretary with Liberty Mutual Insurance. Leaving the office-work world for new experiences, she worked for Lord & Taylor as a Sales Associate for many years before retiring in 2003.

In her free time, Judi raised and trained award-winning Collies for many years, expanding this avocation to become a freelance obedience trainer for dogs of all breeds. She also rescued and adopted many Italian Greyhounds and retired racing Greyhounds over the years. In addition to her love for dogs, Judi took an interest in exotic birds, especially her beloved mini-macaw Abba who was her cheerful companion for 29 years. Judi was an active, loyal member of the Everly Brothers Fan Club and corresponded regularly with the Brothers. She loved watching her daytime shows, specifically The Young and the Restless, and contributed a regular column to an online newsletter for fans of the show. Judi was an avid writer; her published works include a collection of poems and a biography of the Everly Brothers presented in poetry and prose. However, the one thing she enjoyed most of all was spending quality time with her family, specifically around the holidays.

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Marie (Mae) L. and John S. Kovalcik.

She is survived by her dear son, Ronald J. Gemeinhardt of Branchburg, NJ; and her loving brother, Jack and wife Clare Kovalcik of Jupiter, FL.
