***Viewing hours will proceed as scheduled today*** Joyce F. Jacobus , 78, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2014. Born in Newark and former resident of Middlesex, she resided in Branchburg for the past 22 years. Mrs. Jacobus was the Registrar of Vital Statistics for the City of Summit for fifteen years, until retiring in 1995. She volunteered and was very active helping out at St. John's Soup Kitchen for many years. She was also a member of the Branchburg Rescue Squad Fund Raising Committee since 2002. Joyce was an avid reader and loved doing various craft projects and cooking, particularly baking. She especially enjoyed spending quality time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Fider. Surviving are her beloved husband of 23 years, Lewis Jacobus; her two cherished sisters, MaryAnn Schetlick and husband, Robert of Berkeley Heights and Elaine Lombardino and husband, Paul of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one niece and one nephew; her two dogs, Missy and Sparky and her two cats, Patches and Candy. A prayer service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 US Highway 202 South, Branchburg, NJ 08876 (908) 526-7638. Entombment will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum, 95 Mt. Airy Road, Basking Ridge. Viewing hours are Wednesday, February 5, 2014 from 3 to 6 PM and Thursday, February 6, 2014 from 10:15 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
