Joseph La Salata

Joseph La Salata, 98, of the Bronx, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 31, 2022. Born and raised in New York City, his lifelong friendships made for great adventures.
Joseph graduated from St. Ann's School and Benjamin Franklin High School. He proudly served our country during World War II and returned home to serve his community. He worked for the N.Y.C. Highway Department as a cement mason for 40 plus years before retiring in 1989. His kindness, smile and sense of humor connected him to generations of people who loved and admired him.
Joseph was an avid Yankees fan and a member of the Cross Bronx Pigeon Club. He was a pigeon fancier, starting on the rooftops of Manhattan and taking his passion with him to his home in the Bronx, helping to promote the sport for over 80 years.
Mr. La Salata was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Ella (Annunziato) La Salata, his parents, Concetta and Antonio La Salata and his brothers John and his wife Dolly and Frank and sister Laura.
Surviving are his three loving daughters, Annette La Salata of Hackettstown, NJ; Philomena and husband Fred Iervolino of Long Valley, NJ; Laura and husband Robert Zambernardi of Sandy Hook, CT; four cherished grandchildren, Fred and wife Gina Iervolino, Joanna and husband Michael Morgan, Rachel and Elizabeth Zambernadi and adored great grandchildren, Benjamin, Grace and Gabriella Iervolino and Michael and Madelyn Morgan.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2022 from 3-7 pm at the Branchburg Funeral Home 910 Rt. 202 South Branchburg, NJ 08876.
A prayer service will begin at the funeral home on Monday, June 6, 2022 at 9:15 am. Funeral mass will take place at 10 am at St. Bernard R.C. Church. Entombment will follow at St. Bernard Mausoleum.
