John P. Spirito , 85, of Iselin, passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Brooklyn, NY and formerly of Newark, John resided is Iselin since 1963. John served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Spirito worked for the Newark Police Department for 25 years, retiring in 1981 as a Detective for the Fraud Squad. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Policemen's Benevolent Association. John is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Theresa DeDomenico Spirito; his two loving daughters, Deborah Winner and husband, Jerry of Herndon, VA and Phyllis Harnett and husband, Thomas of Branchburg; and his four cherished grandsons, John and Jared Winner and Philip and Thomas Harnett. Funeral services will begin with a prayer on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 9:15 AM at Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 US Highway 202 South, Branchburg, NJ 08876 (908) 526-7638 followed by a 10 AM funeral liturgy at Holy Trinity R.C. Church, 60 Maple Ave., Bridgewater. Interment will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery, Route 28, Bridgewater. Viewing hours are Wednesday, November 17, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.
