John Michael (Jack) Cleary, 89, of Somerset, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 13, 2022, at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital Somerville. Born in the Bronx, NY, he was a resident of Martinsville, NJ for most of his life before moving to Somerset 12 years ago.
John was a graduate of St. Agnes High School class of 1949 and attended St. John's University.
Mr. Cleary was the owner and operator of Cleary Machinery Company where he worked as a Construction Equipment Dealer for 27 years before his retirement in 1998.
He was a member of the Utility Contractors of America and a member of the Quiet Birdmen club for pilots.
John was an avid Golfer, loved hunting (especially deer and duck), tool collecting, flying his plane, going to the Opera (especially Madame Butterfly), traveling around the world (especially Ireland), camping with his family and spending quality time with his grandchildren. He will be missed tremendously by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Bridget Josephine and Patrick Cleary; two brothers, Patrick and James; and a sister, Ann Sexton.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 65 years, Diane Derrick Cleary; five dear sons, Robert and wife Abigail of Cortland, NY, Gerard and wife Tammy of Martinsville, NJ, James of Bedminster, NJ, John and wife Lisa of Neshanic Station, NJ, and Thomas and wife Kerin of Allentown, NJ; three loving daughters, Eileen Cleary of Westfield, NJ, Jacqueline Cleary of Westfield, NJ, and Marilyn and husband James Stephenson of Bridgewater, NJ; a brother in law, Michael Sexton of Woodside, NY; and a sister in law, Rita Sak, of South Brunswick, NJ; and nineteen cherished grandchildren, Caitlin, Ann, Steven, Emma, Rosa, Kennard, Lauren, Grace, Emily, Jack, Aidan, Sean, Brian, Ryan, Elizabeth, Gabriella, Molly, Thomas, and Finn, and many loving cousins in the United States and Ireland.
Viewing will be held Sunday, February 20, 2022, from 1-5pm at the Branchburg Funeral Home 910 US Highway 202 South, Branchburg, NJ 08876.
Funeral services will start with a prayer at the funeral home at 9am on Monday, February 21, 2022, followed by a 10am funeral liturgy at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, 34 Yorktown Road Hillsborough, New Jersey 08844
