Jean Johnson, 90, of Bridgewater, New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, February 1. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.
She was born and raised in New York City until she settled in Middlesex, New Jersey where she and her late husband, Mel, raised their four sons.
Jean worked at various places as a secretary for many years before her retirement in 1989. She and Mel then relocated to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, where she spent 34 wonderful years enjoying beautiful sunsets and playing tennis until almost 80 years old. She called the Avalon Assisted Living her home for the last year and a half where she enjoyed making friends and was lovingly cared for by the staff.
Jean was an avid reader and also enjoyed swimming, playing competitive scrabble, doing crossword puzzles, and going shopping with her friends. She loved music and dancing with Mel. Most importantly, Jean enjoyed the quality time spent with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a wonderful gift of storytelling and would often share her memories with all who would listen.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Mary and John Fisher, her husband, Mel Johnson, her son Gary Johnson, her granddaughter Kelly Johnson, and her brothers, Jim and Arthur Fisher.
Jean will be dearly missed by her sons Thomas (Leena), Robert (Emy), and Richard (Catherine); seven cherished grandchildren, Debbie, Michelle, Erik, Chris, Zack, Elaine and Sophia, three adored great grandchildren, Rourke, Maverick, and Jasper and her loving niece and nephews whose love she treasured.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 from 4pm-7pm at the Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 Rt. 202 South, Branchburg, NJ 08876.
Friends and family are welcomed to gather for a second viewing on Thursday, February 5, 2026 from 9am-10am with a prayer service beginning at 9:20am at the Branchburg Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA.
