Herbert E. Lane, age 91 years young, of Bedminster, NJ, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2014 at his home. Born in Brooklyn, NY, January 30, 1923, son of the late Martin and Esther Dranoff Lane, he had resided in the area for the past year, having lived most of his life, cherishing every day, in Manhattan, NY. A United States Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Lane was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. He was a code breaker during the war and helped enable the deception for the Normandy Invasion. He owned and operated several business during his life, including Champion Motor Freight, Kearny, NJ and Interstate Refrigerated Transport, NYC, NY. Mr. Lane was the forerunner of ocean container shipping and was the number one transporter for tulip bulbs from Holland into the United States. A lover of jazz, music and the arts, he produced many top music shows for the Forest Hills Tennis Stadium. In addition, he was an avid Giants fan who loved following football. His mantra of "Carpe Diem" is but one of his many legacies. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lynn Lane. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Joel Koeppel of Palm Beach, FL; a son, Michael E. Lane of Bedminster, NJ; five grandchildren, Brett and Adam Koeppel and Daniel, Matthew and Ben Lane; and a sister, Bea Klier of Forest Hills, NY. "I have no regrets.
