Helena DaSilva
Branchburg, NJ
Helena DaSilva, 80, of Branchburg, NJ, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2025. Born in Angai Brazil, Helena grew up on a small farm in Ponta Grossa, a town in the south of Brazil where the weather is cooler. She was married in her hometown in 1972 and moved to the United States a year later, settling in New Jersey.
Helena owned and operated her own window coverings business in Somerville with her late husband Antonio, while they raised their two sons. An accomplished seamstress, she could sew an outfit from scratch and always helped her family and friends with mending a tear in a favorite shirt, or even just reattaching a button.
During her free time, Helena loved crocheting, knitting and gardening. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her loved ones; her flan was the hit of every family gathering.
Most importantly she enjoyed spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Anastasia and Miguel Schuinski, her husband, Antonio, four brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are her two dear sons, Michael and wife Lisa, Marcus and wife Antonia, and five cherished grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Lucas, Eva, Claire, and Cate.
Committal is private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations, in her name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
