Máccô Vũ Đình Hậu passed away peacefully on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, with his family by his side. He was 65 years old.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Nguyễn Thị Thu Nga, and his loving and devoted children: Phong Nguyễn (wife, Trúc Lưu) and Johnny Nguyễn. He was also the proud and adoring grandfather of Elle Nguyễn.

Máccô Vũ Đình Hậu was born in Sài Gòn, Việt Nam, on June 13, 1961 to Vũ Đình Hưởng and Bùi Thị Nhật. He was one of six children and is survived by his siblings: Vũ Đình Ri (brother), Vũ Đình Hoàng (brother), Vũ Đình Hiểu (brother), Vũ Đình Hoài (brother), and Vũ Thị Kim Hương (sister).

In their early years, the family were farmers who grew an assortment of crops. Years later, as the economy changed, they became state sector employees. Máccô Vũ Đình Hậu was forced to leave school after the eighth grade following the fall of Việt Nam in 1975. He later left Sài Gòn to work in Vũng Tàu, Việt Nam, where he courageously rescued one of his brothers from being captured by the communist regime. It was during this time that he made the life-changing decision to flee the country in search of freedom.

In 1980, Máccô Vũ Đình Hậu fled Việt Nam by boat with his brother, Hoàng, family friends (Trang and Nguyễn), and 11 other Vietnamese refugees. After their boat's engine broke down, they were stranded at sea for 14 days and nights. By God's grace, they were rescued by the U.S. Navy and brought aboard the USS Kirk. Once aboard, they joined 62 other Vietnamese refugees who had already been rescued. In the days that followed, the USS Kirk rescued additional refugee boats, saving approximately 200 Vietnamese refugees in total.

Máccô Vũ Đình Hậu was first transported to a refugee camp in Singapore for one month, before being transferred to another refugee camp in Indonesia for two months, due to overcrowding of more than 3,000 refugees. He and his relatives were then sponsored by a Jewish organization to come to the United States. After their paperwork was completed and approved, they returned to the refugee camp in Singapore for another 10 days before departing for their new home in the Bronx, New York.

After arriving in the United States, Máccô Vũ Đình Hậu attended technical school from 1980 to 1982, where he learned English, while training to become a plumber. He specialized in vertical plumbing, a demanding and dangerous profession that required working at great heights on high-rise buildings. In 1983, he changed careers after his brother expressed concern for his safety and the risks associated with the work. He proudly became a sales representative at Saint Laurie Ltd. in Manhattan, New York, a custom tailoring business specializing in bespoke suits and shirts. Throughout his 9-year career there, he had many custom suits made, which remained one of his proudest personal achievements.

In 1981, while spending time with friends in Brooklyn, New York, he met the love of his life. By 1992, their family had grown from two to four. After becoming a father, Máccô Vũ Đình Hậu realized he needed a career that would better support his growing family. He successfully owned a beauty salon for five years before deciding it was more important to be closer to family in the suburbs. In 1997, he moved to Perth Amboy, New Jersey, where he purchased his first home. He chose to continue working in the beauty industry rather than owning another salon so he could focus on raising his children. That was when he felt he had achieved his American Dream, defined by a life of hard work, a home of his own, and devotion to his family.

Máccô Vũ Đình Hậu lived life to the fullest. He worked hard, played hard, and loved deeply. He was devoted to his wife, children, granddaughter, siblings, extended family, and friends. He had a great appreciation for sports cars, especially red ones, and loved dogs.

Some of his happiest and most cherished moments were spent with his granddaughter. He never missed an opportunity to attend her music and dance performances. The love and pride he had for her were evident to everyone who knew him.

Máccô Vũ Đình Hậu was also an exceptional chef who delighted family and friends with his latest culinary creations. He loved hosting family gatherings, serving everything from BBQ, steak, and seafood to exotic drinking foods. He enjoyed entertaining, socializing, and welcoming people into his home to share good food, laughter, and drinks. He was a true whiskey and cognac connoisseur; he spent many years building an impressive collection he took great pride in. One of his favorite things to do was opening a new bottle he never tried and taste it with friends and families.

He also had a remarkable appreciation for fashion. Some would even say he was very metro. Whether wearing tailored suits, earrings, jewelry, colorful sneakers, or bold clothing, everything he wore made a statement. His style was loud, distinctive, colorful, vibrant, and uniquely his own. Between his distinguished wardrobe and his extensive collection of fine spirits, these reflected some of his greatest passions and proudest accomplishments.

Máccô Vũ Đình Hậu lived a full and happy life and will forever be loved, remembered, and cherished by his family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 US 202, Branchburg, NJ 08876. A Funeral Mass will immediately follow at 12:00 PM at Our Lady of Częstochowa Church, 807 Hamilton Blvd., South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
