Gary W. Verhoorn, 78, of Neshanic Station, NJ, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Orange, NJ Gary resided in Hillsborough for 30 years before moving to Neshanic Station 16 years ago.
Gary received his Master's Degree from NJIT in Civil Engineering. Later, he opened his own massage practice. Growing up, Gary was always active. That carried later on in his life. He raised money for M.S., Parkinson's disease charities and formed "Resolution for Others," a charity group that supports community projects. He created Resolution Run 5k Race to support Hillsborough HS Project Graduation,Carol's Cats and Rock Steady Boxing. He was race director for Resolution Run for 20 years.
Gary had a love for being active, whether it was walking or doing marathons. Gary achieved many 5k's, advanced to doing 45 official marathons, and competing in 7 Iron Man Races. Not only did he love doing marathons, he had a passion for massage therapy. After receiving his first massage, Gary signed up for Massage School to help others including athletes like himself.
Gary graduated from the Somerset School of Massage Therapy in 2004 and formed Hillsborough Massage Therapy, LLC, a therapeutic and sports massage practice.
Through and through, Gary always had a passion for helping others in need but most importantly, Gary enjoyed spending quality time with his family especially his granddaughter, Mia Rose.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Theodora and Frank Verhoorn, and his brother, Don Verhoorn.
Surviving are his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Grace Lanzafama Verhoorn, his loving daughter, Tara and husband Dominick Iantorno of Hillsborough, NJ; a dear brother, Frank and wife Shirley Verhoorn of MA; and his adored granddaughter, Mia Rose.
