Obituary

Francis Xavier Poulson, age 87, passed away on September 21, 2022. Francis was born in Holgate, OH on April 8, 1935 to William and Elizabeth (Romes) Poulson of Holgate, Ohio. After graduating from Holgate High School in 1953, he continued his education at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry in 1957. Francis served in the United States Army for six years, with two years of active duty as a Biological Scientist Assistant while stationed at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Washington, DC, and four years at the United States Army Reserve at Fort Hayes Columbus, Ohio. He was given his honorable discharge in 1966.

For more than 32 years, he worked for Campbell Soup Company as a Chemist, Senior Chemist, Chief Chemist, Manager of Quality Control Central Spice Operation, and most recently Manager of Pesticide Residue Program, QA. He also authored and managed the Pesticide Residue Reporting System until retirement in 1995. A devout Catholic his entire life, Francis also served as President, and was a member of, the Holy Name Society.

Francis enjoyed playing local organized baseball and slow pitch softball in his youth, and was affectionately referred to as "Lefty" in high school by his friends. He was a collector of United States commemorative postage stamps, beginning this life-long hobby while he was in elementary school. Another passion was collecting and restoring Lionel trains.

He is predeceased by his parents and three brothers Joseph, Daniel and Thomas.

Francis is lovingly survived by his wife, Joyce Ann, to whom he was married to for 59 years; his five children, Mary Therese Whitlock, Sharon Marie Poulson, Barbara Ann Storms, James Francis Poulson and Teresa Ann Poulson; his eight grandchildren Ashley, Ryan, Owen, Mackinnon, Susie, Meredith, Everett, and Landon; his three great-grandchildren, Max, Nora and Finn; and a host of nieces and nephews, in-laws, cousins, and friends.

A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2022 from 3-6pm with a prayer service from 5-6pm at the Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 US Highway 202 South, Branchburg, NJ 08876. A full catholic service will take place in Ohio at a date to be announced.

Committal is private.
