Frances Lillian Sikanowicz, 88, of Readington, NJ, passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 22, 2026. She was born on March 27, 1938, in Elizabeth, NJ and spent most of her adult life residing in Readington, NJ.

After earning her Master's Degree, Fran worked at Dewitt B Barlow Elementary School as a 2nd grade reading specialist. She loved her work and took great pride in helping prepare children for their future.

Fran was a devout Catholic whose faith was an important and enduring part of her life. She was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Whitehouse Station, where her faith and connection to the church brought her great comfort and meaning throughout her life.

Fran devoted her life to her family and treasured every moment spent with the people she loved. Fran especially looked forward to the holidays, family gatherings and traditions that brought everyone together. A lifelong Yankee fan, Fran could be found cheering on her favorite team in any event. She loved traveling to her beach house in Lavallette, NJ where she enjoyed making memories by the shore with her family and friends. She also loved trips to Atlantic City, Broadway plays in NYC, and traveling to special places including Italy, St. Maarten and Florida. Fran was a proud member of the Red Hat Organization and cherished the many friendships, laughter and adventures she shared with the ladies. An avid reader and shopper, she had an appreciation for beautiful things and took pride in her many collections. She also loved listening to Frank Sinatra, whose music was always a favorite of hers. She had a sweet tooth for anything chocolate, and a particular fondness for the hard, crunchy ends of just about everything. Frances enjoyed the simple things in life. Above all, her greatest joy was her family. The love she shared with them will remain a cherished part of their lives and a lasting reminder of her.

Frances is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Rose and Nicholas Longo, her husband, Leon J. Sikanowicz, her son Mark Mondelli and her brother, Ralph Longo.

She is survived by her dear son, Kenneth Mondelli and his wife Kristen; her brother Nicholas Longo and his wife Evelyn; four cherished grandchildren, Kristy Mondelli; Valerie Steele and her husband Logan; Julia Mondelli and Anthony Mondelli; three adored great grandchildren, Abigail "Abby" Frances Steele (whose middle name honors her beloved Nana), Charlotte Steele and Joshua Steele; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

A mass will be celebrated at 9:00 am on Saturday, October 24, 2026 at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Cathedral in Metuchen, NJ. Interment will follow at Saint Gertrude Cemetery and Mausoleum in Colonia, NJ.
