Eugene S. Scott, 97, of Branchburg, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at CareOne Assisted Living in Somerset.

"Scotty," as he was affectionately known, was born in Glen Lyon, Pennsylvania. He spent over 35 years in Wilkes-Barre before retiring to Branchburg, where he became an active member of the VFW for many years.

Eugene proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a Private First Class, rifle sharpshooter, and MP. He was part of the Marine detachment aboard the USS Valley Forge at the time of its commissioning. As a "plank owner," he served on the ship's original specialized security detail during its historic entry into active service.

A lifelong lover of the water, Eugene had a passion for sailing. He spent many joyful years racing small boats at his vacation home on Lake Nuangola, Pennsylvania.

Eugene was a hardworking and devoted family man. Together with his wife, Dorothy, he built and operated multiple service stations in the Wilkes-Barre region of Pennsylvania. Through determination and vision, he eventually purchased and developed land and built their forever home in Buttonwood from the ground up. Even while balancing the demands of business and homebuilding, Eugene was known for his ever-present smile and positive spirit.

He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Mary (nee Kanyuck) and Stanley Scott; his loving wife, Dorothy Waslofski Scott (2020); his five sisters, Celia, Adeline, Stasia, Dorothy, and Betty; and his brother, Alvin.

He is survived by his devoted son, Barry Scott, and his partner, Olga, along with their dog, Cordy, who brought Eugene great joy in his later years. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, from 4:00–8:00 PM at Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 Route 202 South, Branchburg, NJ 08876.

A prayer service will begin at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 9:15 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Church in Bridgewater. Interment will follow at St. Adalbert's Cemetery in Glen Lyon, Pennsylvania.
