Ellen Tremel Lawrence, 72, of Hillsborough, NJ, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2026. Born in Bayonne, NJ, Ellen spent 17 years in Hillsborough.

Ellen dedicated her life to educating and inspiring young minds as a grammar school teacher, finding great joy in helping children learn and grow. Her passion for education extended to speech therapy, where she touched the lives of countless students with her patience, kindness, and encouragement.

Outside of the classroom, Ellen loved going to the beach, sewing, and doing arts and crafts. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending quality time with her family especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her baking skills, especially the countless batches of Christmas cookies she made throughout the years.

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Doris and Henry Velez.

Surviving are her two dear sons, Matthew and wife Lindsey Tremel, Brian and wife Shannon Tremel, her brother, James and wife Debbie Chandler, and four cherished grandchildren, Kelsey, Delaney, Fallon, and Lila. Ellen also leaves behind her faithful dog, Bailey, who brought her many years of companionship and unconditional love.

A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 from 4pm-6pm at the Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 Rt. 202 South, Branchburg, NJ 08876. Committal is private.
