Edward (Gary) Bannon, age 72, of Spring Lake Heights, NJ, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2021 at his residence. Born on April 18, 1949 in Staten Island, NY, he resided in New York City for several years until relocating to Spring Lake Heights over 20 years ago. Gary graduated for LaSalle Academy in Manhattan in 1967 and attended Fordham University for college, before being hired by Amalgamated Bank of New York, where he worked for his entire career before retiring. After retirement, he worked part-time at the Bel-Aire Golf Course in Wall Township. Gary was a man of varied interests and pursuits. A devoted fan of baseball since childhood, in later years, he also enjoyed playing golf and attending horse races, especially the Belmont Stakes, with his friends. As an avid opera fan, he treated his nieces and nephews to productions of the "Nutcracker" during the holidays. He was also a talented guitarist and enjoyed performing traditional Irish folksongs with his extended family on annual St. Patrick's Day celebrations. Following his retirement, Gary enjoyed traveling with his friends and family to Scotland and Ireland on several occasions. He especially enjoyed visits and holidays with his many cousins, nieces, and nephews throughout the years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Thomas Bannon. Surviving are his brother Tom and his wife Ginny Bannon of Bridgewater, NJ; and their four children Kevin, Andrew, Thomas, and Laura. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 5-8pm at the Branchburg Funeral Home 910 Rt. 202 South Branchburg, NJ 08876. Committal is private.
