Obituary

Dr. Joseph Frank Scalia

Bernardsville, NJ

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce that Dr. Joseph Frank Scalia, 53, of Bernardsville, NJ, passed away peacefully at his home on June 13, 2023. He was surrounded by his family. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, son, uncle, godfather, friend, and physician.

He will be missed beyond words by his family, friends, colleagues, and patients. He cast a wide net in the relationships he built throughout the years. If you knew him, you called him your friend.

He lived fully and passionately. He loved work and did it tirelessly, touching and improving thousands of lives along the way.

His greatest joy was making lasting memories with his children, Emily and Nathaniel. He loved to spend time with them and their dogs. He loved to watch their sporting events, go clamming with them, travel with them, talk and laugh with them, and as they got older, even work with them in the office. His pride in and love for them was boundless.

He and Lisa met their first day of medical school at N.Y. College of Osteopathic Medicine. They were inseparable from that day forward, going on to be partners in every aspect of life, always laughing and never running out of things to say. They enjoyed 30 years together filled with mutual love, respect, and friendship.

Joseph was preceded in death by his father Frank Joseph Scalia, his mother Ann Carol Scalia, and his canine companion Sadie.

Surviving are his loving wife of 27 years, Dr. Lisa Jordan-Scalia, his loving children, Nathaniel Joseph and Emily Francesca, two cherished and adored sisters, Carol Ann Bunce of Amherst, NY; Susan Marie and husband Ron Flanders of Franklin Park, PA; his mother and father in law, Frank and Rosy Jordan of Manhattan, NY; his brother in law, Michael Jordan of Manhattan, NY; many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

Joseph was driven and incredibly hard working. He always led with kindness and compassion.

Throughout his career, he saw patients, managed his and Lisa's medical practice, and served in numerous hospital board positions. In 2008, he began a second career of flipping houses, which fed his incredible creativity.

Joseph was diagnosed with Interstitial Lung Disease 13 years ago, but never stopped living life to its fullest and pushing his body to the limits because he wanted to get the most out of his life. He received incredible care given with love and compassion by Dr. Joseph Parambil at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.

He and Lisa went on to establish the Scalia Family Foundation for Interstitial Lung Disease at the Cleveland Clinic, which helps fund research into this relentless autoimmune disease, hoping and praying that other families do not have to lose their loved ones to this disease.

A viewing will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023 from 3-8pm at the Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 Rt. 202 South, Branchburg, NJ 08876.

Funeral mass will take place on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at St. Ann's R.C. Church at 11am.

Interment will be private per family's request.
