Donald Walter Schwertfeger , 72 died Thursday, April 20, 2006 at the Somerset Medical Center, Somerville. Born in Jersey City, he formerly resided in Freehold and then Bridgewater before moving to Hillsborough 16 years ago. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and attained the rank of Sergeant. Donald was an Engineering Efficiency Expert for 10 years until 1964. He was extremely involved with the construction of the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial. He also was a former member of the Free and Accepted Masons. He was preceded in death by a daughter Wendy Sue Ellis, his mother Helen Esche and brothers Frank and Billy. Surviving are his loving daughter, Robin Schwertfeger of North Providence, Rhode Island and loving brother, David Schwertfeger of Newbern, North Carolina. Prayer services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. at the Branchburg Funeral Home 910 Highway 202 south, Branchburg, N.J. Interment will follow in the St. Bernards Cemetery, Bridgewater, N.J.
