Obituary

Donald E. Hallisey, 82, of Raritan NJ passed away peacefully on Sunday February 08, 2015 surrounded by his family. Born in Englewood NJ, he was a resident of Lyndhurst NJ for 21 years before moving to Raritan 57 years ago. Mr. "H" as he is known in the neighborhood lived his life believing as William Butler Yeats said, "There are no strangers here; Only friends we have not met yet." To his daughter he was "MacGyver". Given a practical problem to solve he would stand with his hands behind his back, study it for a while and come up with an ingenious solution that made life easier. To everyone, he was known for his wonderful stories and, his ability to tell a joke. Mr. Hallisey was a member of the US Army and served during the Korean War. Shortly after, he went into the computer industry in sales and retired from Prudential Real Estate. Donald was the Past Exalted Ruler of the Somerville Elks Lodge # 1068, and was president of the Cooperate Housing Corporation (a nonprofit organization) for over seven years. He was dedicated to building and managing shared housing for senior citizens. In his spare time he coached basketball and little league in Raritan for a number of years, and was an avid Giants fan for over 50 years. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents Andrew and Anna Quigley Hallisey, and his brother Jack Hallisey. Voted "class couple", Don married his high school sweetheart Doris Lopinto Hallisey, they were married for 62 wonderful years. He is also survived by his daughter Debra Hallisey of Lawrenceville NJ; son Kevin and his wife Carol Hallisey of Jacksonville NC; 2 brothers, Richard Hallisey of Panama City FL, and Gerald and his wife Judy Hallisey of Pompton Plains NJ; 2 sisters Patricia Kopp of Pequannock NJ, and Mary Ellen and her husband Richard Afflitto also of Pequannock NJ, many loving nieces and nephews, his cherished Bichon companion Bella and granddog Josh.
