Charlotte H. Jaeger Obituary

Charlotte H. (Shots) Jaeger, 98, of Bridgewater, New Jersey passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, at Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge. Born on November 11, 1927, in Paterson, NJ, Charlotte was a former resident of Hartsville, Pennsylvania and Elgin, Illinois, before settling in Bridgewater in 1969, the community she called home for more than five decades.

Charlotte graduated from Eastside High School in Paterson, NJ, and the New Jersey College for Women (NJC)

A lifelong lover of tennis, Charlotte played regularly well into her eighties. She delighted in watching the Grand Slam tournaments and became a master of the DVR, ensuring she never missed a match she hoped to see "live."

Charlotte was also gifted in needlework, a talent she nurtured throughout her life. She began by sewing clothing for her daughters and went on to create needlepoint pillows and framed pieces, knit and crochet afghans, design interior décor including upholstery, pillows, and window treatments, and sew festive hospital gowns for children. Her creativity and craftsmanship brought beauty and comfort to many.

Beyond her personal hobbies, Charlotte was deeply committed to her local community through her long-standing membership in the Bridgewater Women's Club. Her years of dedication and service culminated in a major milestone when she was accepted into the Order of the Lily for 2019–2020, an honor that celebrated her meaningful impact on the organization.

Charlotte is predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward; her parents, Louis and Mary (Sytsma) Hoitsma, and her brothers Louis Hoitsma, Jr. and Robert Hoitsma.

She is survived by her three loving daughters and their husbands: Joanne Jaeger and Bruce McConnell of Branchburg NJ/Penn Yan, NY; Jacqueline Jaeger Houtman and Carl Houtman of Madison, WI; and Judith Jaeger and James Renaud of Del Mar, CA. She also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren: Katie Squires and husband Steve of Scotch Plains, NJ; Peter Scully of Battle Ground, WA; Ethan Houtman of Fitchburg, WI; and Melinda Houtman and wife Naomi of Syracuse, NY. Charlotte was blessed with three great-grandsons - Calvin, Henry, and Adrian – who brought her tremendous joy.

In keeping with Charlotte's wishes, services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Somerset Medical Center Foundation Steeplechase Patient Assistance Fund, a cause meaningful to her and her family.
