Cecil Rajendra, 66, of Branchburg, NJ, passed away peacefully on September, 28, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Cecil came to the United States in 1984. He resided in Palm Springs, CA for 4 years before moving to New Jersey in 1988 and has resided in Branchburg for 27 years.
Cecil completed his primary and secondary schooling at the Royal College in Colombo. He then attended the Ceylon Hotel School and received a master's degree from the Swiss Hotel School in Zurich.
Cecil worked in the hotel industry for over 35 years and served as a Food & Beverage Director in numerous world class, luxury hotels in the US and abroad.
Cecil, affectionately known as Omar, was first and foremost a family man. Being raised in a Hindu and Buddhist home, he converted to Catholicism in 1990 because he felt so strongly about his Christian faith and worshipping as a family. Aside from work, Cecil found great pleasure in vacationing in the sun, playing golf, watching Sunday football "Go 49ers!!" and cooking rice and curry. He also dabbled in painting and proudly hung his artwork throughout his home.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Nanda and Supraminium Cathiravelupillai, and a brother, Cath Ravindra.
Surviving are his loving wife of 34 years, Catherine Schraeder Rajendra, one dear son, Matthew Rajendra of Branchburg, NJ; two loving daughters, Sarah Rajendra of San Francisco, CA; and Jessica Rajendra of Branchburg, NJ.
A viewing will be held on Monday, October 4, 2021 from 4-7pm at the Branchburg Funeral Home 910 Rt. 202 South Branchburg, NJ.
A prayer service will begin at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 9:30am. A funeral mass will follow on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 10:30am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton church in Three Bridges, NJ. Committal is private.
