Obituary

Brian T. Murphy

Branchburg, NJ

Brian T. Murphy, of Branchburg, New Jersey passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Center for Hope Hospice, surrounded by his loving family. He was 65 years old and a resident of Branchburg for 28 years.

Brian was born on October 14, 1960, in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He grew up in Cranford, New Jersey, where he was a standout cross-country runner. After graduating from the American School in London, he earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Syracuse University, followed by a master's degree in economics from the Johns Hopkins University.

Brian started his career as a Research Economist with the New York City Fire Department, where he met the love of his life, Gail Murphy. After a few years in New York City, Brian returned home to New Jersey where he worked a variety of jobs in the financial industry, holding positions at AT&T, Prudential, JPMorgan Chase, Capital One, Merrill Lynch, and Bank of America.

Outside of his professional life, Brian was the consummate family man. He poured himself into his three sons' athletic journeys, where he was a constant presence on their sidelines cheering them on. Away from the sidelines, he loved his dogs, enjoyed watching the NHL and Formula 1, and was an avid fan of the Rolling Stones. He also found peace in bird watching and never passed up a trip for Polar Cub ice cream. Those who knew him well, will remember his great sense of humor that brought laughter and joy to those around him. But most importantly, he cherished the quality time he spent with his family.

He is predeceased by his beloved parents, Marie and Richard F. Murphy, and his brother Richard P. Murphy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Gail; his three sons, Michael and wife Alexis of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; John and wife Hayley of Manhattan, New York; Christopher of Branchburg, New Jersey; his brother, Kevin of Brooklyn, New York; and his grandson Theodore.

A memorial service will take place on Friday, June 19, 2026 from 3pm-6pm at the Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 Rt. 202 South, Branchburg, NJ 08876 with a prayer service beginning at 5:30pm.
