Obituary

Anthony Stalgaitis, 73, of Branchburg, NJ passed away on Thursday August 6, 2026 at Hunterdon Medical Center.

Anthony was born and raised in Orange, NJ, and graduated from Our Lady of the Valley High School in 1971. He went on to Rutgers University College of Engineering, where he earned a B.S. in Industrial Engineering as well as a B.A. in Economics, and was a member of several academic honor societies during his time there. He later attended Lehigh University, earning a master's degree in Industrial Engineering.

Anthony began his career with an internship at Ethicon in Bridgewater, NJ. It was there he met the love of his life, Kathleen when he saw her “fluttering down the hall,” as he famously told everyone. He went on to work at the American Can Company in Washington, NJ, Chambersburg, PA, and Greenwich, CT, before moving his family back to New Jersey in December 1984. He spent 17 years working as an IT project manager in Quality Assurance for Telcordia Technologies (formerly Bellcore), from October 1984 to December 2001. He then joined Sanofi Inc., where he was named Senior IT Project Manager and held several other roles until his retirement in 2018.

Anthony had a wide range of passions. He loved bird watching, gardening, and stargazing. His family could always count on him to send out an alert about the latest meteor shower, planetary alignment, or eclipse. He was a devoted fan of Crosby, Stills and Nash, Hot Tuna, the Grateful Dead, and Jefferson Airplane, and attended many concerts with friends and family. Anthony was always up for a good road trip and loved spending his Sunday afternoons “going for a ride” around the tri-state area with Kathleen.

Anthony also had a deep love of travel outside of New Jersey and the U.S. He visited Germany, India, Australia, Italy, and Ireland. One of his favorite vacations was the trip to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, that he took with his family in 1994. Japan held a special place in his heart; he took 18 business trips to Japan, even learning the language and immersing himself in the culture, so he could give presentations there alongside his interpreter.

Anthony always used his engineering background to work on a variety of projects around the house and to help out his kids with their needs, at any hour of the day. We could count on him to research the best tools and provide counsel for the most methodical approach, including providing a “binder with tabs” to organize the information. He was also skilled in the kitchen, drawing inspiration from Jacques Pepin, Julia Child and Lidia Bastianich. His creme brulee and shrimp scampi were second to none.

Anthony is predeceased by his loving parents, Anna and Anthony Stalgaitis, and his brother, Steve.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen Stalgaitis, of Branchburg, NJ; his daughter, Megan, and her husband, Daniel, of Branchburg, NJ; his son, Ryan, and his wife, Casey, of Readington, NJ; and his cherished grandchildren, Gray, Anna, and RJ.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church, 105 Summer Rd, Three Bridges, NJ 08887. Family and friends are welcome to arrive at 12:00 p.m. to pay their respects before the Mass begins.
