Obituary

Anthony Mastroianni, 84, of Bridgewater, NJ passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2020 at Morristown Memorial Hospital. The son of the late Mary Louise (D'Agostino) and Antimo Mastroianni, he was born in Plainfield, NJ on June 16, 1935. Anthony graduated from Plainfield High School in 1953, and on January 8, 1956, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Latty. They raised their family in North Plainfield before moving to Bridgewater 25 years ago. After high school, Anthony joined the Army, where he served his country as a surveyor in Germany. He then worked briefly as an electrician before starting his own business, PM Electric, in 1961. He worked as a well-respected electrical contractor throughout the state of NJ for nearly 50 years and passed down his craft and tremendous work ethic to his three sons. Anthony was dedicated to his family and always made them his top priority. Every summer was highlighted with a trip "down the shore," a tradition that remains to this day. As a grandfather, he enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events, concerts, and recitals. He was an avid bowler, gardener, and active member and past president of the North Plainfield Italian American Club. Anthony's commitment to the community was demonstrated in his coaching of Little League Baseball and involvement with Boy Scouts and charity events. He later was a key member of the homeowners' association for the Four Seasons at Bridgewater, where he developed and cherished deep friendships with his neighbors. Additional hobbies included collecting coins, reading, photography, and lovingly embracing all with his wit and sarcastic sense of humor. He was unafraid of any challenge; he could fix anything and was always more than willing to help, no matter the task at hand, all with a care-free attitude that made him a joy to be around. Anthony is preceded in death by his brother, Gaetano Mastroianni and wife Joan, sister Angela Muldowney and husband Jack, and sister Anne Morrone and husband Joseph. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 64 years, Marilyn Mastroianni; three sons, Anthony Mastroianni and wife Rose of Annandale, NJ; Michael Mastroianni and wife Sandra of Hillsborough, NJ; and Daniel Mastroianni and wife Carol of Martinsville, NJ; six grandchildren, Sarah, Scott, Jamie and husband Brett, Danielle, Raymond, and Allison; and great granddaughter, Reagan. He will be lovingly remembered as a selfless family man of unwavering morality and will forever remain in our hearts. A Memorial Service to celebrate Anthony's life will be held at a later date and open to all. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the American Lung Association. 1600 Rt. 22 East #115 Union, NJ 07083.
