It is with tremendous sadness that we announce that Anna Mathew, age 74, went to be with the lord early Sunday, September 1, 2019. Anna was a cherished daughter, devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. A true blessing to everyone she met, Anna was the heart of the family, with a bold faith, kind smile, giving heart.
Anna, the eldest of six children, was born on March 12, 1945 in Bangalore, India to David Henry and Christina Sundari Walter. After earning her nursing degree from Christian Medical College, she immigrated to the US in 1971, where she practiced for 35+ years in a variety of capacities. Anna brought her faith with her to her profession and spent the last years of her work life caring for and counseling those struggling with mental illness and addiction.
On June 16, 1973, Anna married the true love of her life, Thomas Mathew, and subsequently raised two children, Lara and Marc. Anna devoted her life to serving her lord and savior, Jesus Christ, acting as an example to all those around her. A truly selfless woman, Anna was a patient listener and made all those she came into contact feel special. In addition, Anna loved to garden, read, spend time with her friends, and travel with her family far and wide to enjoy God's creation. Her greatest joy, however, was the time she spent with her four grandchildren: Andrew, James, Lilly, and Gabriella Flor.
Anna was preceded in death by her father and mother. She is missed sorely by her loving husband of 46 years Thomas, her eldest child Lara and husband Derek, along with their children Andrew, James and Lilly, and her devoted son Marc with wife Glenda L. and daughter Gabriella Flor. Anna was also instrumental in settling her entire family into the U.S. to provide opportunities for a brighter future. She leaves behind her beloved brothers and sisters (Rev. Baktha and Preethi Kumar, Dr. Ned and Caroline Rajkumar, David and Pauline Kumar, Samypillai and Elizabeth Jayaraj and Drs.Franklin and Elise Kumar) and many, many nephews and nieces.
The viewing will be held at Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 US Highway 202 South, Branchburg on Thursday September 5th from 5-9pm with a formal ceremony from 7-8pm. Flowers can be sent to directly to the funeral home.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 6th at 11am at King of Kings Worship Center at 219 Mt Airy Rd, Basking Ridge. Burial to follow immediately at Somerset Hills Cemetery in Basking Ridge.
