Andrea Lee Kosaka Andrea Lee (Davis) Kosaka, 63, was kind and beautiful, with a quick smile, generous spirit and easy-going manner. Born in 1957 in Chicago, IL, Andrea died July 24, 2020 of complications related to leukemia. She is deeply missed by her sons Robert and Anthony; her partner Jim Rossiter; her sisters Kathleen and Melanie; her nieces Brianna, Tai, and Paige Davis Kleppinger; Brittany Madderra; Carolyn Harris; and her nephew Jon Harris; as well as many beloved relatives, friends, and acquaintances. The daughter of Robert and Dorothy Davis, Andrea grew up in Redding, CA, attending Mt. Diablo and Shasta Elementary schools, Shasta High School, and Shasta Community College. She was on the high school cross country team and played the flute in the band, earning a place in the Shasta Symphony Orchestra. She graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Occupational Therapy, earned her license, and worked with adolescents at an inpatient facility in Callabasas, CA. She also sang in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ventura choir. After moving to Branchburg, NJ when her sons were young, Andrea worked at facilities including Hagedorn Psychiatric Hospital and Hunterdon Care Center. She also worked part time providing in-home care occupational therapy. Professionally, she was happiest when working with older adults, helping them feel valued, empowered, and reassured. She listened to their stories and concerns and enjoyed speaking with and singing with German-speaking patients in their native language. Andrea exemplified the true meaning of her OT profession by using a holistic approach to help patients reach their own goals toward independence. She was passionate and pragmatic with a soft-spoken, honest, and humble approach. She often went beyond her job scope to help her patients, such as buying them non-slip shoes their own budgets wouldn't allow. When her sons were young, Andrea helped them build their fishing skills, became a Somerset County 4-H prep club co-leader, taking youth on field trips and camping adventures; in addition, she helped with the annual 4-H yard and wreath sales. When her sons attended Somerville High School, Andrea co-led the Robotics Club and was an invaluable assistant to the fencing team. As a longtime member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Somerset Hills, Andrea taught children's religious education classes, sang in the choir, and served on committees including Buildings and Grounds. She also volunteered for the Branchburg Democrats and The Giving Network of Somerset County. Andrea was devoted to her sons Robert and Anthony and was very proud of the men they grew to be. She adored her partner Jim Rossiter and her terrier mix Cooky, a constant companion on walks to local parks and trips to the New Jersey Shore. She also greatly enjoyed spending time with her sisters, extended family and dear friends. She made every occasion more fun, and her compassion, common sense, and quick humor are greatly missed. In recent years, Andrea's life was enriched by Rock Steady Boxing, a program she joined to combat the effects of Parkinson's Disease. Andrea's virtual Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, hosted by the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Somerset Hills. Details will be shared with members, friends and family.
