Obituary

Steven Cernek Jr. , 84, died Thursday, October 18, 2007 at the University Medical Center, Princeton. Born in Lansford, Pennsylvania, he formerly resided in Whitehouse Station before moving to Somerset seven years ago. Steven was an Army Veteran of WW II attaining the rank of Sergeant and served in the First Aircraft Repair Unit. He was a recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal. Mr. Cernek was an Insurance Manager in the statistical department for Crum and Forster Insurance in Basking Ridge for twenty years until retiring in 1988. He formerly worked for the National Board of Fire Underwriters in New York City for 25 years. Steven enjoyed fishing, boating and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents, Steven and Anna Student Cernek Sr., a brother, John and a sister, Anna Cernek. Surviving are his beloved wife of 59 years, Anna Osifchak Cernek, his loving daughters, Joanne Polkowski of Bridgewater, Nancy Campilango and husband, Louis of Somerset and Joyce Gallagher and husband, Paul of Berkeley Heights and his cherished grandchildren, Kristin and Jessica Campilango and Aidan and Quentin Gallagher. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 Highway 202 south, Branchburg, N.J. Interment will follow in the St. Bernards Cemetery, Bridgewater, N.J. Visitation hours are Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the funeral home.
