Margaret Merino Alvaro 100 died Friday May 25, 2007 at Bridgeway Care Center, Bridgewater. She was born in Cuba to Concepcion and Prudencio Merino and immigrated to the United States on the Morro Castle at the age of six. She resided most of her life in both Branchburg and Bridgewater. She was employed at Carrier Foundation in Belle Meade as head of the department of housekeeping for 25 years until her retirement in 1973. Margaret was an original member of the Bradley Gardens Fire Company Auxiliary and donated land to the Fire Company to build their first building. She was a communicant of the Holy Trinity R.C. Church in Bradley Gardens and a founding member of its Altar and Rosary Society and stayed active until her 90's as a Bingo worker for the church. She was an active member of the Branchburg Senior Citizens and was recently honored on her centennial birthday by President George W. Bush. Words could never describe her. Caring, Friendly, Beautiful , Considerate and a friend for life can only begin to give you an idea of what she was composed of. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ramon Alvaro in 1972 and four brothers Larry, Anthony, Claude and Raymond Merino. Surviving are her loving son Edward of Branchburg, her loving daughter Dolores Johnson and husband Ernest of Bridgewater, her cherished grandchildren Valorie Randolph and husband Craig of Glen Gardner, Lynn Johnson of Highbridge, Lance and Nancy Alvaro of New Mexico, Susan Alvaro of California, a great grandson Justin Miller and great granddaughter Amber Alvaro. Funeral services will begin 8:45 A.M. Tuesday with a prayer at the Branchburg Funeral Home 910 U.S. Highway 202 south, Branchburg, N.J. followed by a 9:30 A.M. Funeral Liturgy at the Holy Trinity R.C. Church, 60 Maple Street, Bridgewater. Interment will be in the St. Bernards Cemetery, Bridgewater. Visitation hours are Sunday from 1 to 5 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Holy Trinity R.C. Church, the Bradley Gardens Rescue Squad or the Branchburg Rescue Squad.
